Units of Work/Energy

Work or Energy is measured in joules.  The unit is named after James Prescott Joule.

The nicety of connecting the coulomb to other physical measurements shines here.  While the joule is defined "officially" as below, that same effect is realized when we apply 1 watt for 1 second.  We could also say one joule is realized when we apply one amp at one volt for one second.  See how neat and tidy that is?  That is all because the coulomb is defined as it is.

CURRENT DEFINITION
The joule is the work done when the point of application of 1 newton moves a distance of 1 meter in the direction of the force.
